SciFi SongFest, Songs 231-232

Here are two songs that would both be based on print sci-fi, if “Iron Man” were about the comic book character, which it isn’t. How’s that for a counterfactual connection?

231. Black Sabbath, “Iron Man” (1970):

A slightly different version (no opening “I am Iron Man,” for one thing):

Addendum: Thanks to Irfan for introducing me to this cover version by the Cardigans:

232. Hawkwind, “Needle Gun” (1985):

But this next song is definitely based on Michael Moorcock’s Jerry Cornelius stories:

There’s a Jerry Cornelius movie (which, alas, I have yet to see), variously titled The Final Programme and The Last Days of Man on Earth. You can see the aforementioned needle guns in action here, in the fight between Elric and Yyrkoon over the sleeping Cymoril – uh, I mean Jerry and Frank over the sleeping Catherine:

It’s all connected ….

Do you know The Cardigans’ version of “Iron Man”:

Naturally, they have a version of “Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath” as well.

        I’m amazed that there’s a song that I know that you don’t.

Well, a lot of the songs I’ve posted here I didn’t know before I went specifically searching for science-fiction-themed songs.
