9 Responses to Night Shift

According to the Moffatweet, “First Night” and “Last Night” take place after “Wedding of River Song.”

I would guess that “Bad Night” and “Good Night” take place some time after “Day of the Moon” (because in “Day of the Moon” the Doctor asks Rory a question about his Roman memories that he seems to know the answer to here) but before “Let’s Kill Hitler” (given the offhand way that Amy refers to River) and therefore before “The Rebel Flesh”/”The Almost People.”

I think that this is Amy’s important question from the Space and Time minisodes, which indicates inter-minisode continuity – The first two are both after Day of the Moon, and after Space and Time, and this follows up on the important question she didn’t get to ask him then…

In further Who and movie news, Moffat said on Twitter today: “To clarify: any Doctor Who movie would be made by the BBC team, star the current TV Doctor and certainly NOT be a Hollywood reboot.”

Moffat says that “First Night” and “Last Night” take place after “Wedding of River Song,” but I hae me doots.

First, future-Doctor’s implied destination with future-River is surely something he would have wanted to get done before he died, when he still thought he was going to die in “Wedding,” so this would likely be before “Closing Time.”

Second, the Doctor tells River that Amy and Rory are asleep, implying that they’re still on the TARDIS — which would place the story before “The God Complex.” (Of course he could be lying, but why? Or it could take place during next season, if Amy and Rory end up back on the TARDIS — but will they?)

It’s still clearly after “Let’s Kill Hitler,” though.

Ah! But I think that he was still largely running from his feelings for her/the extent of their relationship at that point, and saw details of such (Like the Towers) as something that “could be rewritten,” whether or not he should dare – That and a heavy dose of just not thinking about it could have pushed the Singing Towers from his mind even if, logically, he had to give her a screwdriver.

Something like that. Or, he’d been planning to do it last of all, just before he got the Tessalecta plan set up, so it still works.

The White Dinner Jacket Doctor and New Jailbird River do have a “going on their honeymoon” feel that seems to fit for me only after Wedding. But there IS still the matter of Amy and Rory’s presence. This may have to function as a “Season 6b” I think.

I’m not really sure one way or ‘tother. In support of your honeymoon theory, though, is later-Doctor telling earlier-Doctor “good luck tonight,” which I took to be a reference to River and earlier-Doctor being about to have sex for the first time.

Though if so, that means that from his subjective perspective he dated her for 200 years without ever having sex with her. Alien dude indeed.

11 is a pretty blushy and oblivious incarnation, so that could still be seen as tremendous progress! Or maybe he just believes in the sanctity of marriage! Ten did marry Liz 1, who is the only one we know he… *ahem*!

I took it the same way you did… Though I guess, thinking about it, I have a hard time believing in all those encounters River kept her distance – It’s very possible it could still have been RIVER’S first time, even if it wasn’t his, though – So the good luck could still be meaningful. Hmm.

          Also! Christmas prequel! –

Well, Doc #10 said once that he’d been a dad, and Doc #1 claimed to be a grandfather; and I assume Liz 10 wasn’t the mama in those cases.

“Well, Doc #10 said once that he’d been a dad, and Doc #1 claimed to be a grandfather; and I assume Liz 10 wasn’t the mama in those cases.”

Very Yes. Also 9’s “know the feeling” in response to “I was a father, and a grandfather, now I’m only a doctor” – And that he’d been around a bit and it could be assumed he’d danced.
I meant “he” as specifically 10! (It gets so confusing with the pronouns and the different hims!)

But it is still possible he’s had several weddings! (“Rubbish at weddings, especially my own and all.”) And it is interesting that 10 was probably the most love-prone and flirtatious doctor, and yet the only one we know he bedded, he specifically mentioned marrying. So it IS possible he’s an old fashioned sort in that area, He might just insist on some sort of ceremony for proprieties sake, even if he ends up running away in the TARDIS. Cad.
