Just now on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart said something like: “Ron Paul keeps beating Giuliani in primary after primary, yet the media treat Giuliani seriously, but whenever they mention Paul they just laugh.”
Perhaps this is the MSM equivalent to Pascal’s Gambit? Rudy’s a notoriously petty human being.
If Ron won and they ignore him, egg on their face, but no real harm done. In the even more unlikely event Rudy won, if they’d ignored him, there’s a very good chance he’d use his newfound power to get revenge on them in any number of ways.
People take Rudy seriously in the same way they take leprosy seriously.
One factor may simply be the fact that Paul is a House member, and House members are generally taken less seriously as candidates than senators and governors who have a history of winning statewide elections. (New York City is for all intents and purposes a state.) If Paul was a senator he’d be getting a higher degree of media respect.
