    To what do you refer? My guess would be whoever did it does not know the difference between Muslim and Hindu mendicants.

      It’s a classic song; here’s a version from 1938, and here’s a more recent version. As you can see, the song is driven by a deep concern to get the details of the various religious traditions exactly right.

    Wow. Such a fine display of ignorance. Well, I suppose there’s no need for mention that a dervish would not have a “girlfriend…” And the Muppet version only makes it worse.

    If they had used the word “fakir” that could work, because it has come to reference Hindu mendicants as well, although the girl-friend part is still out, though I suppose boys will be boys… Fakir doesn’t quite have the same ring to it I suppose.
