Dylan Death Metal

Cylon Michael On tonight’s third-season premiere of Prison Break the song that’s blasting on the radio as Michael explores his charming new prison is a Spanish-language version of “All Along the Watchtower.” I couldn’t help wondering whether this was a nod to Galactica’s third-season finale.

Yeah, I know – it’s a famous song, and no connection to Galactica is necessary to explain someone’s using it. Still, Galactica’s was the most recent, prominent, significant use of it, so I’m betting it’s no coincidence.

But what I want to know is – does this mean that Michael, Mahone, Bellick, and T-Bag are Cylons?

I think you must lose your bet!

The most promising cue would be the prison watch-towers at the Fox River penitentiary.

I love “Prison Break”. It portrays quite perfectly the reality of US politics and the aptly-named “Criminal Justice System.” It perfectly replicates the findings of the Stanford Prison Experiment. I love the story structure — sequenced tranches of multiple plot-lines — which is very similar to Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings.”

I’m mildly amazed that “Prison Break” ever got past the media censors (private and public), who must have been asleep at the switch.

Most of all I love the characterizations and the exploration of motives.

The plots are so fast-moving that you can’t go make a coffee or you miss something important. Thankfully I have a SKY+ Box attached to the set, courtesy of a friend, so I can pause, rewind or whatever. There’s an excellent synopsis on Wiki for those who want to catch up with the plots.

If you have missed it thus far, go buy (or download) the whole shebang.

“Prison Break” is one to keep.

(I have a weakness for planning high-tech prison breaks. What “Prisoner” fan doesn’t? >:-} ).
