Okay, next week brings the very last Harry Potter novel; time for some predictions.
I won’t speculate about who lives and who dies (even though the words
StoNe chAmber Prisoner goblEt
orDer prIncE hallowS
have been appearing in fiery letters on my wall with alarming regularity).
But I will predict that a) Snape has not betrayed Dumbledore, but instead killed him on Dumbledore’s own instructions, and b) Snape’s mixed attitude toward Harry is explained by Snape’s having been in love with Harry’s mother – hence Snape resents Harry for the father’s sake but protects Harry for the mother’s sake.
Yeah, I know; I claim no pathbreaking originality for either of these theories; they’re widely popular in Potterdom (though I did think of them independently). But if I had to bet for or agin ’em, I’d bet for.
Another theory that’s out there (though it also occurred to me independently) is that Snape might turn out to be Harry’s real father. I don’t reject it out of hand (“Search your feelings, Harry, you know it to be true ….”), but I’m inclined to bet against it at present.
I predict that at the close of the book Harry’s parents and Dumbledore appear in glowing form as Ewoks sing a song. I would seriously like to predict that the final Horcrux will be Hogwarts itself. Voldemort chose items with ties to the four founders and was obsessed with the school, so it seems like a logical choice, Harry will have to wreck shop on Hogwarts.
Could you please use some rollover tags or something to hide these posts. I just had to scroll past it real quick. I’m trying as hard as possible to not have this book ruined for me.
Black Bloke,
Do you really think that guesses made by someone with no inside information count as spoilers?
Yes. In case you didn’t realize it, you’re a genius. A genius with a vast knowledge and lightning quick recall of fantasy/scifi works. Any guesses you make are likely to be on the ball. If any theories you come up with even slightly match what happens in the book, I’m going to say “told you so!”
I still have yet to read this post for the reasons stated above.
Told you so!
Cool! I like being a genius. But as noted above, my guesses were pretty widely shared in Potterdom ….
