Jon Stewart’s rant on Obama’s continuation of Bush’s policies just now was a welcome relief from Olbermann and Maddow, who couldn’s find anything to criticise Obama for tonight except his dreary speech on BP.
"Austro" as in Rothbard and Wittgenstein, "Athenian" as in Aristotle and smashing-the-plutocracy.

That “dreary speech” (and the follow-up meeting with BP execs) seems to have persuaded BP to agree to stop paying shareholders until at least a $20 billion fund is set up for the Gulf Coast. I think they call that soft power.

I doubt the speech convinced BP anywhere near as much as what he said to them behind closed doors (probably along the lines of “do you morons realize how helpful for my party it’d be if I simply went medieval on your asses?”).
I imagine the behind-closed-doors bargaining was more along the lines of this:
“Come on, guys. You gotta give me something. Don’t make me have to take one of your toys away.”
