Long Live Secession

Inasmuch as the Left-Libertarian Yahoo Group’s chief moderator, formerly a terrific left-libertarian whose name rhymes with “Hey, Feel Cool, Man,” has apparently fallen to the Fallen to the dark side dark side (both in the no-longer-a-left-libertarian sense and in the suddenly-deciding-to-reject-dissenting-posts sense), some of its members have started an alternative discussion list called LeftLibertarian2. (I missed most of the excitement, just getting caught up on my mail now.)

Since the aforesaid moderator will not permit the existence of the new list to be mentioned on the old list, I announce it here. As far as I’m concerned the new list is the list. (There’s also the LeftyLibertarian list but I’m not sure what its status is. Also, check out the Left-Libertarian blog aggregator.)

    Just wow.

I did not belong to the old list but I just read through some of the stuff over there. Crazy ideas for someone supposedly a left libertarian. Too bad considering the list’s heritage.

Hopefully the new list will be even better.

Thanks for the promo, Roderick. Jack Shimek started LeftyLibertarian with the same idea I had. But since I was a more aggressive sheep-stealer (perhaps because I had more of a grudge over having my comments moderated and being unsubbed), he encouraged his members to migrate over to my list.

But no matter. I think any successor list would have eventually been swarmed with refugees.

Kevin – the way you, Sheldon, and others were treated was inexcusable. Good lord! While I was away from the list it went from slightly annoying to just plumb crazy.

No one was more shocked than I. I had no idea my post about Sean Hannity’s invidious hypocrisy about Barak Obama would set off the One Whose Name Shall Not Be Mentioned. This was my first encounter him the OWNSNBM. So it came out of the blue for me, especially his gratuitous assertion that all I did on the list was launch cheap shots? Huh? When? How did I offend him? Was it something I wrote in defense of the Palestinians?

I think it is sad. I didn’t check up much on the old list, but was there back in the day when SEKIII was still alive, and Fred FoldVvary posted. It is also sad, as Alongside Night is still pretty much essential reading, I think. Being a British libertarian, I find myself amongst those who are very sympathetic to J. Neil’s position both on recent wars and Islam. British libertarians were much more sympathetic to the wars, and are happy to use border controls to shut out Moslems, and even to send into exile foreign Moslems. I hate this, but we I just sort of ignore those bits, or sometimes argue against them, and get along with the rest of it. I can’t see why this ability to more or less live and let live hasn’t occurred on the LeftLibertarian list

[…] Left Libertarians of a vaguely Konkinite sort are probably well aware by now of this whole business in the Yahoo! LeftLibertarian group and the behavior of this one guy. Freeman refers to this individual as “Darth” and Roderick Long mentions that his name “rhymes with ‘Hey, Feel Cool, Man.’” Seems nobody wants to mention his name, so I’ll refrain as well… […]
