The radiation-induced-powers characters like the FF, Peter Parker, Bruce Banner — they were all created in some kind of ironic twist on their own arrogance and self-confidence.

Banner invented the gamma bomb that should have killed him, Parker was a science genius who was irradiated by a science experiment, Reed Richards own ship is what carried the FF into the cosmic rays.

So in the case of the Japanese, what should have happened is that a bunch of Japanese mutants would be created as a result of the Japanese desire to oppose US hegemony in the Pacific. The sons of bitches how dare they, and whatnot.

Well, it’s preferable to the effects of radiation in our universe.

      Well, they got Godzilla.

Nelson: I’d have thought an atomic bomb would kill him!
Bart: Well, now you know better.

I believe the line you attribute to Nelson was actually Martin’s.

History shows again, and again how nature points out the folly of man?
