The seasteading book is very interesting, and mentions a few precedents of trying this kind of thing. One strange logical leap is that after it demonstrates states will just take over nearby settlements on land (Isle of Roses, Minerva Reef), it makes the inference that mobile seasteads would not be subject to this restriction. Of course the problem can be temporarily alleviated by the “flag of convenience”, but the passage came off sounding like just mobility is enough.

We should all get together and seastead North Dakota into a free, stateless territory.

    …too soon?

If anyone from the Philadelphia area is interested, Patri will be giving a talk April 9th at Temple University. A link to the Facebook event page is above.

I’d like to see Patri arrange for a virtual 3-D engine sandbox model of the Seastead design. Why do we always need to kill things in the sandbox rather than make and explore things?

I’ve always thought Patri was a kindred spirit. His interest in rational communes/co-operative living and engineered living environments lead me to believe he was familiar with the arcology, Human Scale and intermediate technology world outlooks.
