I worry that they’ve naturalised it just enough to lose the poetry of the original but not enough to make it seem realistic — the worst of both worlds, the way “Should I exist or should I not exist?” lacks both the poetry of “To be or not to be?” and the realism of “Should I kill myself ?”
I liked it, but I’m curious about how well they will bridge the current time frame (looks current anyway) with the sad fact that trains just aren’t as important as they used to be. I actually do enjoy the book, and understand the time it was set in, but that was over 50 years ago….the movie hopefully will find a way to answer that.
The rumor I’ve heard is that rising fuel prices make airfare too expensive and so rail makes a comeback — which is connected with the oil shortage that makes Ellis Wyatt’s shale extraction process so important.
My own preference would be just to make it an alternate timeline and not bother with explanations.
Just in time to honor the Egyptian strikers. 🙂
A bit over the top, and more dramatic and staged than you’d expect a movie to be, but sense this is Atlas Shrugged that we’re talking about, it fits.

Peak-Oil Atlas Shrugged, now that’s a pretty weird combo.
Hi Roderick,
Did you get my email a while back about Prometheus Unbound? We’d love to have you contribute reviews and such if you are interested and have the time.
I blogged about the trailer too:

I don’t remember the email; let me look.
Looks like another case of “The Trailer is 10 Times Better Than The Film.”
