What about DC’s announcement that the new Superman/Batman crossover will borrow heavily from Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns…after Dark Knight Rises was already essentially an adaptation of Dark Knight Returns? These are movies based on literally the same storyline.

I don’t see how they can borrow too heavily, since they won’t be making Batman and Superman into aging heroes who’ve been friends/allies/opponents for decades.

That’s very true. Also, given the ending of Man of Steel where Superman threatens the US military, it seems unlikely that Supes will be working as an agent of the government in bringing Batman down (which is a shame because I thought that was the most thematically interesting aspect of the whole piece)…and a cameo by Ronald Reagan is almost certainly off the table!

OK, now I’m puzzled. Since this will be an attempt to integrate both the new and the slightly older X-Men films, how will the continuity issues between First Class and Last Stand be resolved? Inquiring minds want to know.

One sure thing about Marvel is: only Uncle Ben stays dead. Used to be Bucky Barnes too, but they brought him back. One character who never, ever stays dead is Jean Grey, who must hold a record for resurrections and clones by now.

I suspect their plan will be to ignore the continuity problems.

Actually, Avengers 2 will only be using the title. Age of Ultron; it won’t be adapting that storyline. Also, Whedon has said that Hank Pym will not be Ultron’s creator. There’s a certain Stark fellow…

As for X:DOFP, apparently this will address the continuity of the previous films, as it involves time-travelling. Or is that an alternate universe travelling? 😉

Is it just me, or does the text ”X:DOFP” look like a complex emoticon?
