When I was going to Cal State Northridge a few years ago I took a class with a professor who was very knowledgable about the Maya calendar (she was Guatemalan). She told us that 2012 in Maya tradition doesn’t really signify “the end of the world” but rather the beginning of a time of great change. It’s pretty funny how the whole thing has come to signify a “doom and gloom” but I’m starting to see talk of such things everywhere.
