Im off to Riverside CA tomorrow; heres what Ill be doing Tuesday, at Garys university. Back on Wednesday; after that, no more trips for a month or so.
I don’t buy the assumption that we can’t still admire someone even if they said things that were stupid, evil, or insane. (Obviously we admire them for other things.) Otherwise I couldn’t admire Plato, Aristotle, Aquinas, Locke, Voltaire, Kant, Godwin, Nietzsche, Proudhon, Mill, or Wittgenstein — all of whom said things in the stupid-evil-or-insane category.
Roderick, this is not what we say. François didn’t told us that ”we should absolutely lost our respect for any individual who vomit that kind of crap”. But you can possibly lose respect for someone in part because of some insane quotes from his own.
But I can’t have respect for Proudhon, sorry! Even if many of his ideas are great.
Looking forward to seeing you in under twenty-two hours.

Then you are free to post quotes from those people, too. “used to” can also mean “still do” 🙂
