Lapsus Linguae, Science Fiction
I loled a bit on the inside.
I can’t remember whether it was when Jason Todd became Robin or whether it was when Tim Drake got the job, but I remember reading that Batman writers felt that Batman needed Robin precisely so the brightness of Robin (both costume and boyish exuberance) served as an antidote to Batman’s darkness.
I’m not sure how they worked the choice of identity into the story, though! I remember that in the Batman Forever film Dick Grayson is trying to decide on names and favours the obviously much cooler Nightwing.
I thought he was named after Robin Hood, though?
