Gramercy Green: tower of terror?
I’m shocked to learn that NYU has a student residence hall called “Gramercy Green” (a misleadingly bucolic name for an intimidating 22-story structure) at E. 23rd St. & 3rd Ave. – just two blocks away from E. 24th St. & 2nd Ave., or “Intersection Zero,” where a student recently assaulted a taxi driver for being Muslim.
It’s remarkably insensitive toward the cabbie community for NYU to operate, so close to the site of the tragedy, a center catering to the very group responsible for causing the tragedy, namely students! That would be like having a McDonalds at Hiroshima.
NYU’s so-called Gramercy Green is less a building than it is a knife at the throat of Manhattan’s yellow rows of taxis. We demand that NYU respect our feelings by demolishing their Intersection Zero School for Assassins.
I’m down. Let’s get rid of the Mickey D’s at Hiroshima while we’re at it.

this dorm has been there long before said incident and cannot be simply moved due to someone’s irrational and probably drunken behavior.

Yes, we should remove this dorm because all NYU students, especially the ones who live in or near Gramercy Green, hate muslims and have the impulse to assault them each and every second of their lives. I actually have seen a group of caucasian students joining in hands with street dealers and jumping on top of a moving cab driven by a muslim. They broke through the window and removed the Muslim driver from the vehicle while continuously beating the victim with an oversized cross. They screamed out, as they wired TNT, C4 and whatnot onto the now broken down taxi, “FUCK MUSLIM TAXI DRIVERS!!! FTW!!!”. After they detonated the devices they spat on the beaten-up driver laying beside the curb next to Gramercy Green, they whispered, “You just got pwned, bitch.” Lighting up a few joints (I suspect it to have been marijuana, an illegal substance) the NYU students and the street dealers walked away in glee. The cops arrived shortly after the incident but were unable to identify the criminals responsible despite the disaster occuring during bright daylight with many witnesses because all the people who were walking by at the time were NYU students who hated Muslims and did not want to help out the police to arrest their heroes.
Haha, so IF the student had assaulted the taxi driver at, I don’t know, Third North dormitory or something, would that make Gramercy Green a safe place whilst Third North is subject to being removed? Think about that.
It’s not always easy telling which commenters are continuing the joke and which commenters are genuinely unable to recognise satire ….

Indicate on your post where it’s supposed to be funny/jokish/satirical. You started the post with an introduction to an NYU dorm then citing a news article that has nothing to do with NYU and stated that for those reasons NYU should shut the dorm down. To you the “overreaction” might be satirical, but for people who don’t know you would read this will most likely say you’re… ummm… extreme?
I can’t believe I’m having to explain this, but okay:
The post is a satire on the opposition to the so-called “Ground Zero mosque” (i.e. Cordoba House).
Gramercy Green = Cordoba House
“Intersection Zero” = Ground Zero
student who attacked cabbie = 9/11 highjackers
students in general = Muslims in general
My point was that opposing Cordoba House because it’s a Muslim project and it’s near a place where some completely unrelated Muslims committed a terrorist act is as silly as it would be to attack Gramercy Green because it’s a student residence and it’s near a place where some completely unrelated student committed a terrorist act.
That sort of defeats the point of satire; but if clues were really needed (which they aren’t), here are some:
- “Intersection Zero” is obviously a reference to Ground Zero.
- I refer to having a McDonalds at Hiroshima as though that were unthinkable, but include a link showing there actually is one.
- “Yellow rows of taxis”: say it aloud.
And if this is a social commentary, I would like to see something which displays the extreme reaction of the cabbie community – which I think you’re trying to make fun of but not clear on.
No, I’m not trying to make fun of the (nonexistent) “extreme reaction of the cabbie community.” I’m using the (nonexistent) “extreme reaction of the cabbie community” to make fun of the anti-mosqueteeers. That’s how satire works; A stands for B, you use A to make fun of B, not to make fun of A.
Some of these comments are absurd. I thought this was great.
