The Marvel’s Captain Marvel always had shared elments with Fawcett Captain Marvel beyond the name. For a while Rick Jones and Captain Marvel would switch places in the Negtive Zone, a homage to Billy Batson/Captain Marvel.
Kind of funny though if you look at what to two charcthers are doing now. Billy has turned into the new Shazam, while Mar-vell has found a time travel loophole to stay un-dead for a while. I wonder when Mar-vell will realize all his childern are homosexuals.
I always wanted to see a crossover where Billy said “Shazam!”, the lightning strikes with a “KTANG!” sound, and when the smoke clears we see that Mar-vell has materialised and is looking puzzled.
Incidentally — why on earth does (or anyway, did) Captain Marvel Junior call himself Captain Marvel Junior, given that his magic word is “Captain Marvel”? Why give yourself a name that you can never utter without triggering an undesired transformation? “Hi, my name is … um …”
