R.I.P. Ray Bradbury

A hauntingly beautiful writer.

Three great pieces on Bradbury (here, here, and here) by Neil Gaiman.

Also a few political quotes (some good, some not so good) from Bradbury here.

Bradbury was my favorite sci-fi author as a child. I especially loved his short stories and how he could weave horror, dystopia, and Golden Age-style science fiction.

    As to the quotes:

    (1) is unbelievably naive, though to be fair it was at least at the beginning of Bush’s term, before he had a chance to really open the gates of hell.

    (2) I’d agree with completely if the word “government” in the last sentence could be understood to merely mean “governance.” Alas.

I like how (5) admits to multiple levels of interpretation. I’d only add that once someone has become unhappy on their own, putting two sides of the issue in front of them will tend to keep them occupied for generations before they realize both sides are swindles.
