McCoy was also considered for the role of Older Bilbo in LOTR, but lost out to Ian Holm – a shame, really, as McCoy strikes me as much more Bilboey than Holm (plus, considering that Martin Freeman is now Younger Bilbo, McCoy looks more like an older Freeman than Holm does).

My topic involves SPOILERS for the season finale of Doctor Who, so I’ve relegated everything to the comments section.

The new Avengers trailer is here. It looks like Tony Stark has all the best lines. That’s fine with me.

I’m not yet a huge fan of how Edward Norton lost control and turned into Mark Ruffalo, but we’ll see.

So, we know from the trailer that Loki is involved; and we know from the post-credits sequence in Thor that the cosmic hypercube from Captain America is also involved. But the trailer also features what looks like a small spaceship, which I don’t figure to be Loki’s ride. Rumors tend Skrullward, but then again they would.

Here’s an interesting analysis of the Doctor Who finale. I hadn’t thought before of these past two seasons being bookended by gigantic eyeballs with opposite meanings. (Come on, by itself that’s not much of a spoiler.)

I could add that the past two seasons have been obsessed with eyes and vision even more strongly than the review mentions. Weeping Angels, the Silence, and the eyepatches are the most obvious cases. (And remember the Angel in Amy’s eye.) Then there have been all the uses of perception filters and psychic paper … and Van Gogh’s vision that enables him to see blind (!) monsters and exploding TARDISes invisible to others ….
