Sarah Palin: The Ominous Parallels
Sarah Palin was born in February 1964. So was I.
In her childhood she lived briefly in Idaho. So did I.
She currently lives in a state whose name begins with the Arabic word for “the.” So do I.
She received her degree from the University of Idaho. I’ve lectured at the University of Idaho.
She’s the chief executive officer of her state. I’m the chief executive officer of my think tank.
She has expressed sympathy for secessionist movements. So have I.
She has served as Ethics Supervisor for the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. I teach ethics every semester.
She likes to shoot moose. I once shot a photo of a moose.
She’s in favour of war, censorship, forcible reproduction, corporate welfare, and gun rights. I’m in favour of gun rights.
She has said: “individual freedom and independence are extremely important to me and that’s why I’m a Republican.” I have said: “individual freedom and independence are extremely important to me, and I agree that Sarah Palin is a Republican.”
She has said: “I think God’s will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built.” I’ve said some very silly things too.
She had never met John McCain before this year. I’ve never met John McCain at all.
Blessed Are the Peacemakers
David Gordon’s review of Anarchism/Minarchism has been posted, with bouquets and brickbats for both sides. (But David charitably refrained from pointing out some of the eccentricities of the index.)
Fun With Cops
Want to know what’s really going on in the streets of the Twin Cities? You won’t get the story from the MSM; but check out the accounts here, here, here, here, and here.
Ayn Rand Institute Lets Us Read Some More Rand!
ARI has once again taken some baby steps into the 21st century by making available online a few more of the works they’re supposedly trying to promote, including Rand’s essays “The Objectivist Ethics” (probably her most important article), “Introducing Objectivism,” “An Answer for Businessmen,” “Man’s Rights,” “Collectivized ‘Rights’,” and “The Nature of Government” (this last is Rand’s only serious discussion of anarchism) as well as some Rand audio files (lectures and interviews).
Addendum:
I just noticed that, despite the absence of any warning to this effect, the online text of “The Objectivist Ethics” is not complete; it’s just the first few pages of the article. I haven’t checked the others yet, but beware. And if it still needed saying: DON’T TRUST ARI.
Six of One
You’d better have one hell of a plan, Michael.
– from tonight’s show, but it could
really be the tagline for the whole series
Tonight was the season premiere of Prison Break. For the spoiler-averse, I’ve buried my thoughts in the comments section.
