Oops!
Well, embarrassingly enough, it turns out that last March I did receive, and accept, an invitation to speak at ISILs upcoming January conference.
I guess my financial crisis over the summer completely blew it out of my memory, and so I most unfairly took the fault to lie with ISIL rather than with your humble correspondent.
Well, Im glad I noticed the announcement on the website, or I wouldnt have made plans to attend! Now I will.
And at least now you know I havent been kidding about my conical hat….
You look oddly like Bakunin in that picture… coincidence?
No, it’s not a coincidence — Bakunin is based on me.
I always assumed your conical hat was like that of a wizard. You should have let us persist in that assumption.
LOL
Man…and all this time I thought your conical hat was a Vietnamese non la; I figured it was some sort of obtuse reference to leftism -> communism -> Vietnam! I guess I deserve a conical hat of my own 😀
Hmm…that shouldn’t be “obtuse”…I’m not sure what word I was looking for; maybe “esoteric”?
I think you’re looking for “abstruse.”
I actually intended it to be ambiguous between wizard’s hat and dunce cap (depending on whether I’m thinking well or badly on any given day).
Haha either way, I was way off.
But you’re right; it was abstruse. Thanks!
Give ’em hell, Roderick. In, you know, a really awkward and sheepish kind of way.
Hey, it’s better than getting a puzzled “um … where are you?” call on the day of the speech!
Thank god for humility. It’s a trait too many of us severely lack.
I am the humblest goddamn person on earth, so eat it, all you wannabes.
You just made a grown man giggle.
Good thing all was worked out.
I had a similiar experience about a year ago in a group I’m in. Got the schedule of the workshops at an upcoming event (which I was attending and giving some sessions), and saw a session I would have figured I would give. But there was no info as to who was doing what session.
So I was a little annoyed that someone was doing a session I could (or probably should) be doing. (its a topic I doubt most anyone else in the org could really do).
Then I get contacted about a week out, and it was mentioned I was doing that session. Uh… except no one told me. So I had to scramble to put stuff together to do the session. Could have been worse. Could have found out when I got to the event that I was supposed to do a session…
I can relate to this 🙂
