Thomas Knapp named News Analyst at C4SS

Veteran libertarian activist and internet news publisher becomes second C4SS paid staff member.
AUBURN, ALABAMA – March 20, 2009 – Center for a Stateless Society – Prominent libertarian activist and news publisher Thomas Knapp has joined the Center for a Stateless Society as the Center’s second paid part-time staff member. In his role as News Analyst beginning April 1st, 2009, Knapp will be producing one or more op-ed pieces per week as well as mentoring volunteer contributing writers.
Knapp has long been associated with “the libertarian wing of the Libertarian Party” and is the founder of its breakaway ultra-faction, the Boston Tea Party. As well as being a prolific blogger on the side, Knapp brings over a decades experience with online news writing, editing, publishing and team leadership; first for the former Free-Market.Net and later for his own publication, Rational Review. He is author of the e-book “Writing the Libertarian Op-Ed,” among other works.

Sorry, No Death For You
Just heard NM Gov. Bill Richardson on Maddow explaining that one of his reasons for opposing the death penalty is that prison conditions are so awful in his state that imprisonment is actually a worse punishment than death anyway.
Well, I’m glad he opposes the death penalty, I guess; but this has got to be the worst argument ever for doing so.
Terror Chic
Israeli soldiers are wearing t-shirts that celebrate rape, murder, and infanticide against Palestinians. (See here and here; conical hat tip to LRC.) Of course they don’t just wear warcrime, they actually commit it, but the wearing is certainly evidence – if anyone needed it – of mens rea.
Why So Serious About IP?
In addition to his other villainies, the Joker is also a fan of IP. In the Batman Animated Series episode “The Laughing Fish,” the Joker fills Gotham Harbor with chemicals that give all the fish his characteristic grin, so that when fishers try to sell them (the fish are otherwise safe to eat) he can sue for copyright infringement. (In the original comic it was trademark infringement, which makes a smidgen more sense.) And in a later episode, “Joker’s Wild,” he decides to destroy a Joker-themed casino because they’re cashing in on his image. Is there no end to his perfidy?
Given real-world IP laws, I’m not sure why Warner Bros. allows these episodes to be hosted on YouTube or how long they will continue to do so; enjoy them while you can! (I like the earlier episode better because it has Harley Quinn in it. Everything’s better with Harley!)
