Shoot the Piano Player Again, Sam

Holy shit, tonight’s BSG episode was brutal. No serious spoilers here. But a note for those who follow the new show but never saw the old – early on, when the piano player is told that the notes he’s playing are a rip-off of some other piece of music, they are indeed: they’re the opening notes of the original 1979 show’s theme.

I almost feel like I’m playing a (boring) video game, with all sorts of inside references to the other games by the same company.

Also who are the “beings of light” that are responsible for Virtual Six, Starbuck, and everything else behind the scenes on the show?

Well, tonight Ellen referred to “someone behind the scenes who’s manipulating everything,” so I guess we’ll be finding out soon. I reckon Starbuck’s dad is one of them.

Incidentally, here are the original notes.

Also it’s interesting how little the show talks about the human cylon society except for one episode. I mean, it seems hard to imagine how a society composed of millions of copies of 7 (8?) people could function. I mean, would people who were clones of the same original all live together, and if not how would governing and dispute resolution work? Would the same clones always be fighting over the same things?

A week later — tonight’s episode (“Islanded”) was the one that was supposed to explain everything. Um, not so much. This is going to have to be one jam-packed finale.
