Everybody Talk About Libertas Ain’t A-goin’ There

For some reason I’m on the Young America’s Foundation mailing list and just got their newsletter with this horrible cover featuring the legions of ravening undead.

I’m sorry to see Walter Williams in that crowd. He’s not my flavour of libertarian, but at least he has some genuine concern for liberty, unlike most of the others in that picture.

I got it too, and had a similar reaction. Fortunately I had not yet eaten lunch.

How many can you name off that cover from memory? I got 9.

That’s truly an assembly of some of the worst pundits America has to offer, which is saying something. I got eleven, but I really have no idea who the guy between Ward Connerly and Star Parker is.

For those who were wondering, here’s a list of the people pictured (of course, don’t look if you want to try guessing), from page 3 of the PDF of the issue:

From left to right: Bay Buchanan, Robert Novak, Walter Williams, Dinesh D’Souza, Ann Coulter, John Ashcroft, Fred Barnes, Michelle Malkin, Ward Connerly, Ed Meese, Lt. Col. Scott Rutter, and Star Parker.

    Oh!

When I saw Libertas in the title, I thought you were writing about something else. ;o)

Young America’s Foundation is one of the only groups bringing the ideas of freedom to campus. That’s very important work and should be supported by all freedom-minded individuals.

Um, what “ideas of freedom” do those massively anti-freedom people on the cover represent?

Coulter’s Adams’ apple has rarely been more apparent. The irony is in the number of vicious homophobes who think (s)he’s hot!

Hmm, well I guess I got ten then because I thought Ed Meese was Bill Bennett. I think that makes the cover at least marginally better.

“You don’t have many suspects who are innocent of a crime. That’s contradictory. If a person is innocent of a crime, then he is not a suspect.”

    Ed Meese
