Someone, somewhere, is doing inadequate market research and wasting their money ….

Eye, aye! My syndicalist commune for an I! Also, I didn’t know that Ran Prieur was considered a left lib. I’ve been reading his stuff for quite some time now. I feel somewhat relieved that I haven’t actually strayed from the path.

Web advertising is almost entirely tailored to your previous browsing history. It has nothing to with the content matter of a given domain(it has to do with the content matter of your browsing history).
So you more or less just informed us of the content your recent browsing history. For example, if I go to leftlibertarian.org, I get DirectTV ads because I just paid my DT bill online and/or web platform advertising because I’m a programmer by trade(most of my browsing history relates to IT topics).
It’s a good thing I didn’t mention the man-on-buffalo sex ad then.
I didn’t get a popup, but there were inline text ads when I went over (and turned off AdBlock). The flag-pin thing Roderick noted, a Romney campaign ad blurb, an ad claiming to offer stock tips, and some stuff about online philosophy courses.
You gouged the “i” out of LeftLibertarian.
