At least the aliens weren’t a bunch of Jar-Jars. Way too much CGI in that film as well.
Actually if the aliens had turned out to all be Jar-Jar Binks that would have been a better ending since you could laugh at it.
I didn’t mind the general alien storyline… and the fridge was stupid but not something that really sticks out for me. It was all the damn (rather poorly done) CGI that bothered me and what it allowed them to do. The insect scene? The Tarzan scene? The slow moving metal shavings? Just terrible ideas and terribly executed.
