The Empirical Me
I’m Roderick T. Long, Professor of Philosophy at Auburn University. I’m an Aristotelean/Wittgensteinian in philosophy and a left-libertarian market anarchist in social theory. (More about me here.) This blog, Austro-Athenian Empire, is a continuation of my earlier blog, archived here.

Hahaha wow.
It’s time you start asking yourself some serious questions? Have you ever noticed your spine glowing red when you’ve gotten … excited?
My neck is insufficiently flexible.
This season, he asks the blogosphere if he’s really a cylon. Then in the next season, he finds out he was put on earth to have “front row seats” to an economic meltdown…
I didn’t know you’re middle name was Tracy.
Not too many male Tracys
Tracy
It was the last name of some relative.
Creepy, and a good question… nothing a bit of exploratory surgery can’t resolve. I’ll volunteer as anesthesiologist, mwhahahaha…
What’s with the blurry background picture of the Coliseum?
The site will appear as intended in Firefox 3.1 beta 3, Safari (current stable release) Google Chrome or Konqueror 4.2. All other browsers will have trouble with some of the CSS3 I’m using.
Is Roderick’s picture and the images in blog post content intended to be transparent? If so, I’d consider making “content” images fully opaque so that they are not distorted by the background.
The transparency is intentional. The final background image won’t be so overbearing, so it should cause less distortion.
The new blue background does make him look more like a Cylon, to bring it full circle.
It looks the same for me in Firefox 3.0.6, Safari 4 Beta, and OmniWeb, and the latest nightly build of Webkit (all for Mac).
Impossible. Safari will display the site with all instructions enabled. Firefox 3.0.6 will not, unless you’ve personally improved upon the Gecko engine.
All instructions including box-shadows and text-shadows will only appear in Safari and Shiretoko (Firefox 3.1 beta). IE7/8 and FF 3 will not display the box shadows/text shadows, Opera and Konqueror will display everything but the box-shadows. Don’t even try to use Chrome with this site. Their alpha blending is broken (haven’t fully adapted webkit yet).
If you’re asking why it’s blurry, see Brandon’s reply. If you’re asking why it’s the Colosseum, I didn’t pick it, that’s a theme Brandon is trying out. He’s the guy who rescued my blog from Yahoo and currently maintains the administrative side of things FOR FREE, so if he likes the Colosseum, I like the Colosseum.
And all this time I’ve labored under the notion that your middle name was Tiberius.
He’s cooler than captain Kirk.
Hey, we’re all a little bit Cylon, right?
